The annual Winter Fishing Festival in Fuhai County kicks off on January 20 at the snow-covered Ulungur Lake in Altay region, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

For over six decades, fishermen have followed the traditional winter fishing method by putting down a giant net under the ice. Fuhai County has turned the tradition into a cultural event by holding a winter fishing festival. Heated bidding for freshly caught fish has always been an exciting part and the first fish caught will be put up for auction.
